Direct Speech คือ การยกคำพูดจริงๆของผู้พูดทั้งหมดมาเล่าให้ฟังโดยไม่เปลี่ยนแปลง โดยอาศัยการนำคำพูดนั้นมาไว้อยู่ในเครื่องหมายคำพูด (Quotation Marks (“…”)) โดยมี comma (,) คั่นกลางระหว่างประโยคที่ยกมาพูดถึง และ ประโยคหลัก โดยประธานที่อยู่ในเครื่องหมายคำพูดจะต้องเป็นตัวใหญ่เสมอ เช่น
He said, “I will clean the house.”
หมายเหตุ ประโยค Direct Speech สามารถทำได้อีกรูปแบบ โดยไม่ได้สร้างความหมายที่ต่างกันแต่อย่างใด โดยเราสามารถทำได้โดยการนำ คำพูดนั้นมาไว้อยู่ในเครื่องหมายคำพูด (Quotation Marks (“…”)) มาไว้ที่ต้นประโยค เช่น
“My name is Mike”, he said.
Indirect Speech (Reported Speech) คือ การนำคำพูดมารายงานให้ผู้อื่นฟัง หรือ การดัดแปลงคำพูดมาให้เป็นคำพูดของผู้เล่านั่นเอง เช่น

ประโยค Indirect Speech แบ่งออกได้เป็น 3 ประเภทด้วยกัน
1. Indirect Speech - Statement หรือ ประโยคบอกเล่า หรือ ปฏิเสธ ในรูปแบบของ Indirect Speech อ่านต่อที่นี่
2. Indirect Speech – Commands, Requests or Suggestions หรือ ประโยคคำสั่ง ขอ ร้อง หรือ ขออนุญาตในรูปแบบของ Indirect Speech อ่านต่อที่นี่
